History of Ciudad Quesada
The history of Ciudad Quesada is closely related to the town of Rojales, which is the main town to which it belongs. The first human settlements in Rojales date back to the late Neolithic period, between the IV and III millennia BC. These primitive settlements consisted of small huts near the river. Later, during the Bronze Age, the area also experienced an increase in population, as evidenced by tools and sculptures found in the region.
With the arrival of the Muslim domination, the rural settlement of the region was organized around the city of Orihuela. The farmhouse of Al-Mudawwar (Almodóvar), located near the fortified hill of Cabezo Soler and the slopes of Inquisición Grande, stands out. This medieval settlement contributed to the formation of the identity of Rojales and gave rise to one of the local traditions: the legend of La Encantá.
As for Ciudad Quesada, the history of this urbanization dates back to the 80's, and is linked to the businessman Justo Quesada. Born in Orihuela in 1926, in 1972 he bought land south of Rojales to start his urban development projects. Ciudad Quesada expands from a 1989 project: the Quesada Golf Club, which in 1994 was renamed La Marquesa Golf & Country Club.
Around this golf course, the construction of 15,000 homes began and grew to 30,000 today, with a wide range of services.
