Geography and History of Campoamor
We have already made reference to the origin of the place name, but abounding a little more in history we can say that like many of the places of the Levantine coast, in ancient times there were watchtowers to prevent Berber invasions and pirates.
The Finca of Campoamor has been in the possession of the Church since 1350, the year in which the brotherhood and the chapel of San Ginés were created there.
At the beginning of the 19th century, when the Mendizábal decree applied the expropiation of the church lands it passed to the Spanish state.
During the following years, these lands were disputed several times between the state and the church, with the poet's father-in-law buying the land and returning it to the church with the arrival of absolutism, until it was finally inherited by the poet Ramon de Campoamor, years later.
The arrival of the 60s and 70s brought the greatest urban expansion of the Dehesa de Campoamor. This is when most of the high-rise apartment blocks were built behind Yachtclub and the "Playa de Barranco Rubio". These buildings were named after rivers in Spain and Europe, while the urban layout of the streets was named after Spanish poets, perhaps to continue the tradition of Spanish literature inaugurated by the poet who owned these lands.
As for the orography, we can say that, most of Campoamor is relatively flat, with several canyons grown with Mediterranean pine forests, some of which are many centuries old, which give the Dehesa a certain wild character.
